Alachua County, FL – A wanted convicted felon was taken into custody Sunday after deputies conducted a high-risk traffic stop on Interstate 75, ending a nearly 24-hour coordinated investigation that began with a violent incident in southwest Alachua County.

According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were first called Saturday afternoon, January 3, to the 2600 block of Southwest 75th Street in reference to a panic alarm and reported disturbance. Witnesses told deputies the suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Lorenzo Johnson, allegedly fled the area on foot wearing black Nike shoes after a physical altercation.

Deputies observed blood and damaged property inside the residence, consistent with a physical disturbance, authorities said. The victim later told deputies that a verbal dispute escalated when Johnson allegedly struck the victim multiple times, caused visible injuries, choked the victim, took vehicle keys, and attempted to steal the car.

Investigators learned that a vehicle matching the description was later reported stolen and located at a Wawa on Archer Road. The victim reported briefly escaping and calling 911 before being persuaded to reenter the vehicle. The victim was eventually able to flee a second time, retrieve the keys, and return home.

Despite multiple attempts to locate Johnson, deputies were initially unsuccessful. Arrest warrants were later issued for battery by strangulation, felony battery (prior conviction), and carjacking without a firearm or weapon.

On Sunday, January 4, deputies used real-time intelligence to locate Johnson traveling northbound on I-75 near mile marker 384 in a white Toyota Camry. Deputies conducted a high-risk traffic stop, during which Johnson complied with all commands and was taken into custody without incident.

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office praised deputies for their teamwork and persistence, stating the arrest reflects their commitment to public safety and accountability.
