Wheatland, WY – A high-speed pursuit on Interstate 25 north of Wheatland ended Friday afternoon after Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers used a tactical vehicle intervention to stop a fleeing driver suspected of DUI.

According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the incident began Friday afternoon, January 2, near milepost 85 on I-25, just north of Wheatland in Converse County. Troopers attempted to stop a black Ford F-150 pickup truck after clocking it at 93 mph in an 80-mph zone.

Authorities say the driver initially slowed to about 20 mph as troopers issued commands to pull over, but then accelerated northbound on I-25, reaching speeds of up to 97 mph. During the pursuit, spike strips were deployed by Converse County deputies, causing damage to the truck’s tires. Despite the damage, the vehicle continued to flee, according to patrol officials.

The pursuit ended near milepost 124 when a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper driving a Dodge Durango performed a tactical vehicle intervention, commonly known as a TVI maneuver, bringing the vehicle to a stop.

The female driver was taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of DUI. She was also cited for speeding, careless driving, and fleeing or eluding law enforcement. Officials said additional charges may be pending as the investigation continues.

Wyoming Highway Patrol emphasized that troopers receive ongoing training in pursuit management and tactical interventions, which are designed to safely end dangerous situations while protecting the public, officers, and suspects.

No serious injuries were reported in the incident. Traffic on I-25 experienced temporary disruptions during the pursuit and arrest.
