According to a release from the Cedar Lake Police Department, officers responded around 7:07 p.m. on January 2, 2026, to a residence on West 13351 Wicker Avenue for a report of an unwanted person. Police said Shawn T. Fullgraf, 49, had been previously removed from the property and was not supposed to return.
When officers arrived, they found Fullgraf allegedly sleeping inside the home. Police said when they attempted to remove him, he became combative, ignored commands, and allegedly assaulted an officer during the struggle. One officer sustained injuries to his back, according to the department.
Deputy Chief Carl Birmingham said officers ultimately took Fullgraf into custody after using a taser. Fullgraf was transported by ambulance for medical evaluation before being booked into the Lake County Jail.
