Union County, OR – Deputies arrested an Imbler man Friday after he allegedly fired several gunshots inside his home while experiencing what investigators described as vivid hallucinations.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a call at 11 a.m. from Joshua Treat, 47, of Ruckman Road, who claimed he was being attacked by a group of men and that at least one person was dead inside his house. Deputies and medics were immediately sent to the scene.
While responders were en route, a neighbor reported hearing multiple gunshots coming from the residence. Deputies arrived to find a broken screen door, bullet holes in the front door, and shell casings scattered inside.
Treat, who was unarmed when deputies made contact, was detained with assistance from Oregon State Police troopers. A search of the home confirmed no one else was present or injured.
Investigators later determined that Treat may have been experiencing hallucinations during the incident. Deputies reportedly recovered at least 10 shell casings from inside the home, one of which had struck a neighboring house.
Treat was arrested and booked on multiple charges, including Criminal Mischief II, Disorderly Conduct II, Recklessly Endangering, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon, the sheriff’s office said.
No injuries were reported.
