Around 9:45 a.m., the Washington County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash between Purlee Road and Vincennes Trail Road, about five miles south of Salem. Officials requested Indiana State Police crash reconstruction officers to investigate.
According to preliminary findings, 65-year-old Donald L. Floyd, of Pekin, was driving a 2005 Ford Focus southbound when his vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a northbound silver 2023 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 64-year-old Brian A. Churchill, of Depauw.
Floyd was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington County Coroner. Churchill was transported by personal vehicle to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles.
Investigators say the cause of the crash remains under review, and toxicology reports are pending. The Washington County Sheriff’s Department and Pierce-Polk Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted in the response.
