Fairfield County, SC – A fatal shooting at the Winnfield West Apartment Complex late Saturday night left one teenager dead and another facing murder charges, according to the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded just before 11 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025, following reports of gunfire at the complex. When they entered an apartment, they found a 17-year-old male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Services arrived and pronounced the teen deceased at the scene.
According to the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Crime Scene Unit—along with SLED Special Victims and Child Fatality investigators—were called in to assist with the investigation due to the victim’s age.
During the early stages of the investigation, authorities determined the suspected shooter is also a 17-year-old juvenile male. Officials say the teen allegedly turned himself in at the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office shortly after the inquiry began.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Fairfield County Detention Center. According to the sheriff’s office, he will be charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime.
Authorities have not yet released the names of either teen due to their ages. Additional details are expected as SLED and county investigators continue the case.
