Pocatello, ID – Drivers on northbound I-15 are facing significant delays today after a semi-truck struck a stationary traffic-control vehicle near milepost 73 early Wednesday morning, according to the Idaho State Police (ISP).

ISP said the crash happened at about 2:30 a.m. when a semi-tractor and trailer hit a traffic-control truck equipped with a crash attenuator in an active work zone. The impact tore open the trailer, spilled cargo across the roadway, and heavily damaged the traffic-control vehicle.

Due to the debris and the condition of the trailer, officials closed the right northbound lane of I-15 as well as the Exit 73 off-ramp. Both closures are expected to remain in place until this afternoon while crews remove cargo, assess structural safety, and repair damaged equipment.

According to ISP, this is the second time in less than 24 hours that a traffic-control vehicle has been hit at the exact same location. One was struck Tuesday, with the second collision occurring overnight. Troopers are urging drivers to slow down, remain alert, and watch for lane shifts in all construction zones.

No serious injuries were reported in the overnight crash, but police said the repeated work-zone impacts highlight the dangers faced by road crews.

Commuters should plan for delays and consider alternate routes until lanes reopen.
