Geneseo, NY – A Livonia man was arrested this week on multiple charges, including felony gun possession, following an investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty, deputies responded to a call around 10:55 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, about a man outside a residence on Cleary Road in Livonia who was allegedly in possession of a gun.

Deputies made contact with 40-year-old Stephen McManus of Livonia, who arrived at the residence while officers were on scene. Sheriff Dougherty said McManus was allegedly found with a handgun but did not have a valid New York State pistol permit. Deputies also suspected he was under the influence of alcohol.

Deputy Justin Zajicek, assigned to the Sheriff’s Office STOP DWI Unit, conducted a roadside investigation and determined McManus was allegedly intoxicated. A breathalyzer test later showed his blood alcohol content at 0.14%, nearly twice the legal limit.

McManus was arrested and charged with felony criminal possession of a firearm, misdemeanor criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, and misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, among other traffic violations.

He was processed at the Livingston County Jail and arraigned before Town of Avon Justice Hoffman. The judge released McManus on his own recognizance, noting the charges do not qualify for bail under New York’s bail reform laws.

The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented McManus at arraignment, while the Livingston County District Attorney’s Office represented the prosecution. Deputies Bryan Mann and Alyssa Cornelius assisted in the investigation.
