Elmhurst, IL – Two Texas residents were arrested in DuPage County after police linked them to an alleged organized retail theft at the At Home store in Elmhurst earlier this month.
According to the Elmhurst Police Department, the incident began on September 9, 2025, when a male and female suspect allegedly stole more than $1,600 in merchandise from the store at 265 S. Route 83. Investigators said the suspects scammed a cashier with a nonfunctioning payment card before leaving with the goods. Some of the items were later returned for cash at another location.
Police said loss prevention staff from At Home also connected the suspects to similar thefts at stores in Indiana and Michigan. On September 11, Elmhurst officers tracked the rental vehicle used by the suspects through license plate cameras near I-290 and Lake Street. Inside the vehicle, police reported finding multiple stolen items before taking both individuals into custody.
Authorities identified the suspects as Veronica K. Jones, 29, and Germaine E. Sanders, 32, both of Spring, Texas. According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, Jones and Sanders were each charged with Theft by Deception, a Class 3 felony.
Police added that Jones was allegedly wanted on three out-of-state warrants and Sanders on one, though none were extraditable. Both suspects were transported to the DuPage County Jail and are scheduled for court hearings.
