Nashville, TN – A Brentwood teenager died Sunday morning at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital following a crash on Old Hickory Boulevard Saturday afternoon, police confirmed.

According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, 15-year-old Cheathan Babu was riding an electric motorcycle eastbound on the sidewalk of Old Hickory Boulevard near High Lea Road when he lost control at a high rate of speed.

Investigators said the motorcycle was traveling around 40–50 miles per hour when it struck a fire hydrant, throwing the teen from the bike. He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive his injuries.

A witness at the scene reported the teen had been operating the motorcycle on the sidewalk before the crash occurred. Police said preliminary findings point to reckless driving and inexperience as contributing factors in the accident.

Authorities have not reported any additional vehicles involved in the crash.

The case remains under investigation.
