Aurora, IL – A traffic stop in Aurora led to the arrest of a documented gang member after officers recovered a loaded Glock handgun and two drum-style magazines, police announced Thursday.
According to the Aurora Police Department, the stop occurred on South West Street around 5:43 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9. Investigators pulled over a Chevrolet Silverado after observing a traffic violation and immediately noticed a loaded drum magazine in plain view on the vehicle’s center console.
A search of the truck uncovered a tan Glock 19X handgun concealed beneath the console, two 9mm drum magazines loaded with 45 rounds each, and a standard Glock magazine containing 15 rounds. Police said neither the driver, identified as 21-year-old Marcos A. Castro Garcia of Aurora, nor his 19-year-old passenger possessed a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card or Concealed Carry License.
Castro, identified as a documented gang member, was taken into custody and charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a gang member, possession of ammunition without a FOID card, and unlawful possession of a firearm without a concealed carry license. He was also cited for not wearing a seatbelt. The passenger was released without charges.
