Valparaiso, IN – Two railroad crossings in Valparaiso remain closed Sunday afternoon following a train derailment that disrupted traffic earlier in the day.

According to the Valparaiso Police Department, Axe Avenue and Greenwich Street are still blocked as crews continue repair work along the Fort Wayne to Chicago Railroad. Police said all other previously closed crossings, including Franklin, Washington, Lafayette and Napoleon streets, have since reopened.

Officials said repair crews are working diligently to restore service and expect to reopen the remaining crossings later today. Drivers are urged to avoid Axe Avenue and Greenwich Street until the work is completed and to use alternate routes in the meantime.

Authorities confirmed there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Police will issue additional updates as progress continues.
