SHOREWOOD – Trinity Christian School in Shorewood and Bethany Lutheran School in Naperville are two of three Illinois schools which are no longer recognized by the state after failing to institute face mask policies among students.

The Illinois State Board of Education made the ruling Thursday, which included Lutheran School of St. Luke’s in Itasca.

With the loss of state recognition, students are at risk of losing diplomas and scholarship opportunities the state normally would offer.

At least 34 other schools across the state are now on probation.

St. Anne Grade School District 256 in Kankakee County voted 5-2 Tuesday to implement a mask-optional policy in defiance of the Governor’s universal mask order for all schools pre-K through 12.

No announcement has been made by the State Board in regards to a change in the school’s recognition status.
