Ionia, MI – A 27-year-old man from Ionia was killed early Friday morning in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Ionia County, authorities said.

According to the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 1:55 a.m. on Friday to East Main Street near Beardsley Road and East Stage Road after reports of a crash with CPR in progress. Investigators determined the motorcycle left the roadway and struck a mailbox.

The driver, who has not yet been publicly identified, was critically injured and transported to U of M Health Sparrow Ionia Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Officials believe alcohol may have played a role in the crash.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Ionia Department of Public Safety, Life EMS, Reed and Hoppes Towing, Ionia County Central Dispatch, and Ionia County Sheriff’s Office Victim’s Advocates.
