Lisle, IL — This Friday, May 30 from 10 to 11 a.m., the Morton Arboretum will be revealing a new temporary public art installation inspired by Japanese artist Hokusai. This exhibit will run until September 12.

The art will be displayed in the Temperate Asia Collection at parking lot P-18. This event is free and open to the public with general Arboretum admission.

To celebrate this unveiling, artist E-ling Lou will be present to give a demonstration of ikebana, the art of Japanese floral arranging, using florals and branches from the Arboretum’s grounds. Lou’s demonstration will explain the symbolism and techniques of ikebana and how nature is used across Japanese art forms.

The installation is part of the Arboretum’s participation in Waves of DuPage public art project. Naperville artist Rich Lo will create ukiyo-e style images across DuPage County in partnership with the College of DuPage, McAninch Arts Center and Cleve Carney Museum of Art. Each work is meant to represent that specific community and will be installed as large murals. All of the works will also be displayed at the McAninch Arts Center during the “Hokusai and Ukiyo-e: The Floating World” exhibition from May 31 to September 21.
