Downers Grove, IL – A Downers Grove woman was targeted during an alleged armed robbery Tuesday night while stopped at a traffic light in a residential area, prompting an ongoing police investigation and multiple arrests.

According to the Downers Grove Police Department, the incident occurred around 8:34 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Forest Avenue. Officers responded to reports that four men had approached the woman’s vehicle, surrounded it, and began yelling at her. She was able to drive away and contact authorities without being harmed.

Roughly three minutes later, at 8:37 p.m., police received a second 9-1-1 call from the same woman, who reported being confronted again in the 4900 block of Forest Avenue. According to her statement, three of the men allegedly demanded money and attempted to grab her purse. One suspect reportedly revealed a multi-colored handgun tucked into his waistband. The woman surrendered cash before the suspects fled south on Forest Avenue. No injuries were reported.

Officers later conducted a traffic stop in the 3200 block of Highland Avenue involving a vehicle with six occupants. A consent search led to the discovery of a backpack containing a sweatshirt similar to the one described by the victim and a multi-colored handgun believed to have been used in the incident.

As of Wednesday, six individuals are in custody, though no formal charges have been filed. Authorities say the investigation remains active, and police are urging anyone with information related to the robbery to contact the Downers Grove Police Department at 630-434-5600.
