Gurnee, IL – A 26-year-old Gurnee man suffered life-threatening injuries early Saturday morning after crashing into a tree in unincorporated Gurnee.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the area of Stearns School Road and Mill Creek Drive around 2:05 a.m. for reports of a serious single-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, authorities found a heavily damaged Mercedes-Benz sedan with the driver trapped inside.
Preliminary investigations indicate the man was traveling eastbound on Stearns School Road when, for unknown reasons, he veered off the roadway and struck a tree. The impact caused significant damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle. Officials noted that the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Fire personnel extricated the man from the wreckage, and he was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical, life-threatening injuries.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team continues to investigate the crash.
