Houston Standoff: Man Fatally Shot, Bystander Injured, School Bus Struck in Traffic Stop Shootout

Houston, TX – A man was fatally shot following an attempted traffic stop that led to a violent confrontation with Harris County deputies. 

The incident, which ended near the intersection of 1960 & Ella, escalated when the man, identified with multiple outstanding warrants, reportedly fled after refusing to comply with officers. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the man was reportedly armed with a semi-automatic pistol and allegedly opened fire on deputies, who returned fire, resulting in his death at the scene.

A bystander, a 48-year-old woman sitting in a nearby car, was injured by gunfire during the shootout. She was transported to the hospital, underwent surgery, and is expected to recover from her injuries. The Sheriff’s Office reported no injuries among deputies. The tense situation also led to a school bus and another vehicle being struck by bullets, though no one in those vehicles was harmed.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing at this time.
