Kankakee, IL – In a community-wide health and safety initiative, the Kankakee County Coroner’s Office has partnered with local and federal agencies to host a medication takeback event.
Set for Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 10 AM to 2 PM, this event encourages residents to responsibly dispose of their unwanted or expired medications. The drive-thru drop-off will take place at the Northfield Square Mall’s east parking area, offering a convenient and eco-friendly disposal solution.
This event, part of the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, aims to provide a safe, convenient, and anonymous means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. Studies indicate that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. Additionally, proper disposal of unused drugs saves our waterways from contamination, as flushed medications can lead to water pollution.
According to the Kankakee County Coroner’s Office, the previous takeback day collected over a significant amount of pills, showcasing the community’s commitment to preventing drug misuse and protecting the environment.
