Chicago Man Serving 60-Day Sentence Found Dead in Lake County Jail Cell

Lake County, IL – Authorities in Lake County have launched an investigation after a 61-year-old Chicago man, serving a 60-day sentence for driving with a revoked license, was discovered dead in his cell at the Lake County Jail. 

According to Lake County sheriffs department reports the incident occurred early on the morning of Thursday, May 3, 2024, when a correctional officer found the inmate unresponsive during routine rounds.

Efforts to revive him, including CPR and the deployment of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), were unsuccessful, and he was declared deceased by arriving paramedics. The inmate, who was housed alone in Pod 3 Southeast, had been monitored regularly, with no apparent signs of distress noted prior to the discovery.

An autopsy by the Lake County Coroner’s Office is pending to ascertain the cause of death, considering the inmate’s known health issues. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has called in the Lake County Major Crime Task Force to conduct an independent investigation into the events leading to the man’s death.
