Syracuse, NY – Tragedy struck when two law enforcement officers were fatally shot after an encounter with a suspicious vehicle during a traffic stop in Syracuse.
The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, April 14th, 2024, intensifying concerns over officer safety during routine duties. According to the Syracuse Police Department, the officers attempted to stop a vehicle around 7:07 p.m. near Emerson Avenue and Hamilton Street. The driver evaded the police, prompting an investigation that led officers to a residence in Liverpool, NY. Here, an armed confrontation ensued between the officers and a male suspect, resulting in gunfire.
Both a Syracuse Police Officer and an Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy were critically injured and later succumbed to their wounds at Upstate University Hospital. The suspect was also shot during the exchange and pronounced dead at the same hospital.
