Homer Glen, IL – A Wheaton resident has been taken into custody following a fire at a Menards store in Homer Glen, charged with multiple felonies including aggravated arson.
Nathan J. Grant, 33, was arrested after Will County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call at the hardware store on Thursday afternoon. According to Sheriff Mike Kelley, surveillance and witness accounts at Menards led to the identification of Grant, who allegedly ignited cotton balls soaked in flammable liquid, damaging property and endangering the store. An alert employee soon extinguished the blaze.
Grant, who was found in the same attire as seen in store videos, was arrested at a Wheaton apartment complex. His vehicle, identified through license plate readers as involved in the Homer Glen incident and a similar episode in Tinley Park, helped pinpoint his location. Grant has made incriminating statements regarding both incidents during police interviews.
The Will County Sheriff’s Office has expressed gratitude to multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Wheaton and Tinley Park Police Departments, for their cooperation in the investigation. Grant is currently awaiting his initial court appearance at the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
