Springfield, IL – Residents of Sangamon County have been warned about an emerging jury duty scam. Fraudulent actors have been deceiving individuals into believing they have missed jury duty and coercing them to make payments, often via gift cards, under the guise of court officials to avoid supposed legal repercussions.

The scam has prompted an official response from the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, urging the community to be cautious and to verify any dubious communications through official channels. The Sheriff’s Office highlights that official jury communications are conducted solely through the i-Juror system, with any summons being sent to a secured online platform. They stress that county officials will never request payments through informal means such as phone calls or emails.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious calls or messages to the Sheriff’s Office immediately and to stay vigilant in order to protect their personal information.
