Springfield, IL – In a potentially significant development in a cold case dating back over a decade, skeletal remains were discovered at a Springfield residence on East South Grand Avenue near South Wheeler Avenue, linked to the 2008 disappearance of Michelle Bianco. Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell announced that the remains were found on Monday afternoon as law enforcement officers were searching the home in the 1200 block of North Oaklane Road for personal items connected to Bianco’s long-unsolved case.

Bianco, last seen in this very neighborhood, has been missing since April 5, 2008, sparking years of mystery and investigation. The discovery was made when deputies from the Sangamon County’s Sheriff’s Office revisited the residence, which is on the same block where Michelle Bianco was last reported to be seen according to a 2016 post by Sangamon/Menard County Crime Stoppers. The proximity of the remains to Bianco’s last known location raises the possibility that they may belong to her, although this has not yet been confirmed pending further forensic analysis.

Investigators have stressed that the investigation is active, with the remains yet to be removed from the home for further examination. The scene is being handled with the utmost care to preserve potential evidence that could shed light on what happened to Bianco nearly two decades ago.

The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office continues to seek information that could assist in solving this case. They encourage anyone who might have any leads, no matter how small, to come forward. Information can be shared anonymously via Crime Stoppers, ensuring that those who help can do so without fear of exposure.
