Elmhurst, IL – In a significant community health initiative, the Elmhurst Police Department successfully collected 126 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs this past Saturday.

The collection occurred during the DEA’s nationwide Prescription Drug Take Back event, which was staffed by Evidence Custodian Muellers and Officer Webb. The event, held in the police station parking lot, provided a safe avenue for residents to dispose of expired or no longer needed medications.

According to Elmhurst Police, disposing of medications properly reduces the risk of accidental ingestion by children and prevents misuse. Additionally, such initiatives help avoid environmental contamination by keeping drugs out of the water system.

While the official take back event has concluded, Elmhurst residents can continue to use the drug disposal drop box located in the lobby of the police station, accessible 24/7, to ensure their unwanted prescriptions are disposed of responsibly.
