Springfield, IL – The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal has allocated nearly $700,000 in grants to various fire departments and EMS providers across the Chicagoland area as part of the 2024 Small Equipment Grant Program.

This initiative, which distributed a total of $4 million statewide, aims to enhance the operational capabilities of emergency services through the provision of essential small equipment.

According to Illinois State Fire Marshal James A. Rivera, the increase in grant funding from last year’s $1.5 million to $4 million reflects a strong commitment to supporting the state’s emergency services. “These grants enable fire departments and EMS providers to purchase lifesaving equipment they might not afford otherwise, significantly enhancing their response capabilities,” Rivera explained.

Among the recipients, the Village of Rosemont Fire Department and Chebanse Township Fire Protection District each secured the maximum grant amount of $26,000.
