Fort Myers, Fl – A Florida man, Derek Evan Weber, 32, has been arrested on multiple alleged charges, including attempted first-degree murder, after he allegedly conducted a violent attack on an off-duty deputy’s residence.
According to Lee County Sheriff’s reports it happened Saturday, when Weber allegedly deliberately drove his vehicle through the garage door of an off duty deputy’s home while firing shots into the home in Hendry County, Florida.
The incident, as detailed by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, involved Weber allegedly ramming his car into the deputy’s garage and discharging a firearm. The off-duty deputy, faced with the sudden peril while at home, managed to protect his family from harm, an act that Sheriff Carmine Marceno later praised as heroism.
Weber’s apprehension came swiftly as law enforcement from both Lee and Hendry Counties united to investigate the attack, which took place on the deputy’s day off. Sheriff Marceno used this moment to spotlight the dangers law enforcement officers face, citing it as an example of the escalating risks they encounter.
