York, PA – The York County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a new jury duty scam involving fraudulent phone calls, emails, and text messages that appear to come from law enforcement.

According to the department, scammers are contacting citizens and falsely claiming they missed jury duty or owe money for a bench warrant. Victims have reported being shown fake documents, including a “bench warrant,” “non-disclosure agreement,” and even materials labeled with FDIC and Coinstar logos. Officials confirm these documents are not real and are part of an elaborate attempt to collect money fraudulently.

Scammers may demand payment via Bitcoin, gift cards, wire transfers, or even request an in-person cash exchange at a courthouse. Some fake messages reportedly display real officer names, badge numbers, or caller ID information that mimics official county lines.

The York County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that it never requests or accepts payment for missed jury duty through any form of cash, gift card, or online transfer. Residents who receive such communications are urged to hang up immediately and verify legitimacy by contacting the Sheriff’s Office or their local police agency directly.

Authorities continue to monitor the scam and ask residents to spread awareness to prevent further victimization.
