Riverton, WY – A powerful winter storm is set to hit Wyoming, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds to multiple regions, including Yellowstone National Park, the Wind River Mountains, and Jackson Hole.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton, the storm will begin at 11 a.m. Friday and last through 11 p.m. Sunday. Expected snowfall ranges from 8 to 48 inches, with the heaviest accumulations in the Teton, Gros Ventre, and Salt River mountain ranges. Winds could gust up to 70 mph, creating whiteout conditions and hazardous travel.
In Yellowstone National Park, Mammoth and surrounding areas may see up to 16 inches of snow, while Jackson Hole and Star Valley could receive between 12 and 20 inches. The Absaroka and Wind River Mountains are expected to see 12 to 24 inches of snow, with dangerous wind-driven drifts.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation warns that road conditions will deteriorate quickly, especially on mountain passes. Travelers should carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and flashlights.
