Cheyenne, WY – A powerful winter storm is set to impact Wyoming’s Sierra Madre and Snowy Ranges through Sunday evening, bringing heavy snowfall and dangerous winds.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, the Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 5 a.m. Saturday until 5 p.m. Sunday. Snow accumulations between 10 and 16 inches are expected, with even higher amounts possible above 10,000 feet. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph, creating whiteout conditions.

Officials warn that outdoor activities, such as hiking and snowmobiling, could become life-threatening. Travelers in the affected areas should prepare for difficult to impossible road conditions, with a high risk of frostbite and hypothermia due to extreme cold.
