Cheyenne, WY – A winter storm is sweeping across southeastern Wyoming, bringing heavy snow and dangerous winds to the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns residents in the Snowy and Sierra Madre Ranges to expect snowfall accumulations of 10 to 16 inches by late tonight. Travelers and locals are urged to avoid unnecessary trips, particularly along I-80 and surrounding highways, as conditions will remain hazardous through the evening.
According to the NWS in Cheyenne, the Winter Storm Warning for higher elevations remains in effect until 11 p.m. Saturday. Meanwhile, areas such as Arlington, Niobrara County, and the northern Laramie Range are under a Winter Weather Advisory until 5 p.m. Lower elevations could see snowfall between 1 to 5 inches, with winds gusting up to 46 mph. Visibility may be reduced due to blowing snow, making driving treacherous.
As the storm moves out late tonight, Sunday’s weather will remain blustery but dry, with temperatures reaching 26°F in Cheyenne and winds gusting to 35 mph. Monday brings sunnier skies, with highs of 28°F and calmer winds. A warming trend is expected midweek, with highs nearing 35°F on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Residents are advised to monitor local updates, secure outdoor items, and prepare for potential power outages in heavily impacted areas. If traveling, plan routes carefully and carry emergency supplies, as conditions may deteriorate quickly.
