Jackson, WY – A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. MDT Sunday as heavy snow and high winds impact Yellowstone National Park and the Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains. The storm is expected to bring up to 15 inches of snow in higher elevations and gusts reaching 55 mph, making travel conditions hazardous.

According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, snowfall will be heaviest over the Pitchstone Plateau in southwest Yellowstone and the surrounding mountain ranges. Other areas of Yellowstone may see between 1 and 5 inches of accumulation. Winds will be strongest Sunday afternoon, further reducing visibility and making backcountry travel dangerous.

Travelers should exercise caution, especially along mountain passes. Blowing and drifting snow could create whiteout conditions, making roads treacherous. The Wyoming Department of Transportation advises checking road conditions at wyoroad.info before traveling.

Outdoor enthusiasts in Yellowstone and the Tetons should prepare for extreme winter conditions and avoid unnecessary exposure. Those venturing into the backcountry should carry emergency supplies and monitor weather updates.
