Wyoming, WY – Strong winds are forecasted to hit parts of Wyoming this afternoon, creating hazardous conditions for motorists. Wind gusts could reach 60 to 65 mph in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, the strongest winds are expected across Natrona County, the Green Mountains, and the Cody Foothills. Sustained winds between 25 to 35 mph will dominate, with localized gusts climbing to 60 mph or higher. The wind event will begin this afternoon and persist through tonight. Areas like Wyoming Boulevard south of Casper and Clark are especially vulnerable to these powerful gusts.
Forecasters warn that strong crosswinds could make travel dangerous for high-profile and lightweight vehicles. Motorists driving along open highways or near mountainous terrain should remain vigilant. Sudden gusts may cause vehicles to veer unexpectedly, increasing the risk of accidents.
Residents in affected regions should also secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture, trash bins, and decorations. Prolonged winds of this intensity can damage structures and create flying debris hazards.
The weather service suggests drivers exercise caution and monitor updates throughout the evening. Gusty conditions are expected to subside by early Saturday morning.
