Cheyenne, WY – Southeast Wyoming residents are urged to prepare for hazardous winds as a High Wind Watch is in effect this weekend. Starting Saturday at 8 p.m. and lasting until Sunday at 5 p.m., strong winds will impact areas near Arlington, Bordeaux, and the I-80 Summit. Gusts could reach 65 mph, posing risks to lightweight vehicles and high-profile trailers.
According to the National Weather Service, winds will range from 25 to 40 mph, with the strongest gusts expected along the South Laramie Range Foothills. The conditions are especially dangerous for travelers, with potential crosswinds on I-80 creating challenges for motorists, especially near Veda Woo and Buford. Drivers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and use caution when navigating impacted routes.
Sunday’s weather will bring partly sunny skies and breezy conditions, with temperatures reaching a high of 57°F. Winds will subside by evening, but cooler air will follow. Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday will see calmer weather, with highs in the mid-40s and mostly sunny skies, making it a brief reprieve before colder air returns closer to Christmas.
Local authorities recommend securing outdoor objects to prevent damage from gusty conditions and keeping updated via weather.gov/CYS for the latest alerts. Travelers should also monitor WYDOT road conditions before embarking on their journeys.
