Riverton, WY – A powerful winter storm is expected to blanket Wyoming’s mountains with heavy snow this weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Teton, Gros Ventre, Wind River, and Salt River mountain ranges from 11 a.m. Saturday to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Forecasters predict snowfall totals of 1 to 2 feet for the Teton Mountains and 10 to 16 inches for the Wind River and Salt River Ranges. Teton Pass and Togwotee Pass are expected to see dangerous travel conditions due to heavy snow, gusting winds, and whiteout conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, winds could gust up to 50 mph along South Pass, compounding travel hazards. Officials recommend avoiding backcountry travel and keeping emergency supplies in vehicles for those who must drive.
