Riverton, WY – A powerful winter storm is set to impact western Wyoming through Sunday, bringing significant snowfall to the region, particularly in the Western Mountains. Snowfall amounts are expected to reach between 6 and 12 inches in these areas, creating challenging travel conditions on major routes, including US-26 and US-191. Residents and travelers are advised to prepare for icy roads and reduced visibility.

According to the National Weather Service, the Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from noon on Saturday until 8 a.m. on Sunday. Lower elevations, including areas near Riverton and surrounding valleys, are forecasted to receive minimal snowfall, with accumulation ranging from a trace to around two inches. While less affected than the mountainous regions, residents in these areas should still exercise caution, particularly during evening hours when temperatures drop and roads may become slick.

The forecast for Riverton indicates mostly cloudy conditions overnight with a low of 21°F. Sunday will see a mix of rain and snow throughout the day, with temperatures reaching a high of 40°F. Breezy conditions will accompany the storm, with west winds gusting between 6 and 20 mph. Sunday night will bring continued chances for light snow, though total accumulation remains minimal near Riverton itself.

Looking ahead, clear skies and milder conditions are expected on Monday, providing a brief respite from the winter weather. However, additional snow chances return on Tuesday and Wednesday, with daytime highs in the low-to-mid 40s. Residents should monitor weather updates and be prepared for potential travel impacts as the week progresses.

Be sure to stay informed by checking local forecasts and exercising caution if traveling through impacted areas. This early-season storm serves as a reminder of winter’s approach in Wyoming, urging residents to prepare for future snow events.
