La Crosse, WI – A winter weather advisory remains in effect across western Wisconsin, northeast Iowa, and southeast Minnesota today as freezing rain, sleet, and snow make travel increasingly dangerous. The National Weather Service warns that untreated roads and sidewalks will turn icy, with conditions expected to persist through Saturday night.

According to the National Weather Service, freezing rain began early Saturday morning and will continue into the evening, potentially leading to up to 0.2 inches of ice accumulation in some areas. Higher ice totals are expected west of the Mississippi River. Power outages and fallen tree branches could also occur in areas with higher ice accumulation.

Travel is strongly discouraged in impacted areas, including along major routes such as Interstate 90 and Highway 14. Drivers who must travel are urged to slow down, carry emergency supplies, and check updated road conditions on 511wi.gov.

Saturday night will bring a continued mix of rain and freezing rain, with temperatures dropping to a low of 31 degrees. Patchy fog is expected early Sunday morning, with cloudy skies and a high near 39 degrees later in the day.

Looking ahead to the week, Monday brings a slight chance of snow and rain before temperatures drop significantly. Highs are forecasted at 23 degrees on Monday night, with wind gusts making conditions feel colder. Tuesday and Wednesday remain mostly cloudy, with another round of light snow possible by midweek.

Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts for updates and avoid unnecessary travel during hazardous conditions.
