La Crosse, WI – A powerful winter storm continues to impact southeastern Minnesota, western Wisconsin, and northeast Iowa, bringing heavy snowfall, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions. Blizzard conditions are expected to persist into the evening, prompting warnings from the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour have been reported in La Crosse and Houston counties, with visibility reduced to just 1/4 mile at times. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches are expected, primarily in southeast Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin.

In addition to heavy snowfall, strong north winds are gusting between 35 and 55 mph, creating whiteout conditions in some areas. The most significant wind impacts are being felt in northeast Iowa and southeast Minnesota, making travel especially treacherous.

A Blizzard Warning remains in effect for Floyd, Mitchell, and Howard counties in northeast Iowa until 10 p.m. CDT Wednesday. The combination of heavy snow and strong winds is making roads slippery and, in some cases, impassable. Authorities urge residents to limit travel to emergencies only and to carry a winter survival kit if travel is unavoidable.

Motorists are encouraged to check 511ia.org for updated road conditions before heading out. The storm is expected to move eastward later tonight, improving conditions overnight and into Thursday.
