La Crosse, WI – Gusty northwest winds and lingering snow are creating slippery road conditions across parts of Wisconsin today, especially along I-90. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously, as light snow and ice are contributing to multiple slide-offs early Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in La Crosse, strong winds near 20 mph are impacting visibility and complicating travel. Road cameras from state 511 systems in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin show partially to completely snow-covered highways, with reports of icy patches. Drivers are advised to slow down, maintain extra space between vehicles, and check for updated road conditions before heading out.

Looking ahead, Friday will see decreasing clouds with a high of 26°F, but winds could gust up to 23 mph, keeping roads slick. Overnight, temperatures are expected to dip to 4°F under clear skies, creating potential for black ice on untreated roads.

Saturday promises partly sunny skies with calmer winds and a high near 21°F, offering a brief respite. By Sunday, temperatures will climb slightly to 31°F with light winds, though roads may still pose hazards in shaded or untreated areas.

Residents planning holiday travel should monitor forecasts closely. While Monday brings a slight chance of mixed precipitation, Christmas Day looks mostly sunny with a high near 36°F, ensuring safer conditions.

To stay updated on road closures or hazardous weather, visit the NWS or 511 traffic sites. Avoid unnecessary travel during icy conditions to ensure your safety and that of others.
