Green Bay, Wisconsin – Wildfire smoke and beach hazards are set to dominate Wednesday’s weather across northeast Wisconsin, prompting safety warnings from state officials. A hazardous combination of poor air quality and dangerous currents on Lake Michigan will continue impacting residents through Wednesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, an Air Quality Advisory remains in effect for north-central, central, and northeast Wisconsin through noon Wednesday. Wildfire smoke from western blazes is pushing into the region, degrading air quality and limiting visibility. Sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with asthma, are urged to limit outdoor activities.

Meanwhile, waves driven by strong south winds will continue to make swimming hazardous along Lake Michigan beaches—including areas near Algoma, Kewaunee, and Manitowoc—until late Wednesday. Currents could sweep even experienced swimmers into deeper water.

Rain returns midweek, with a 30% chance of showers after 8 a.m. Wednesday, along with possible smoke and breezy southwest winds. Conditions should gradually improve into the evening, but skies will stay partly cloudy overnight.

Looking ahead, calmer, warmer days arrive Thursday through Sunday, with no major storms currently expected.
