La Crosse, WI – Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across Wisconsin and surrounding areas on Friday afternoon, bringing damaging winds and the possibility of an isolated tornado.

According to the National Weather Service La Crosse, storms will begin forming in central Iowa by mid-afternoon and track northeast at speeds of 40-50 mph. The highest risk for severe weather extends from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, with the most intense storms forecasted in parts of southern Wisconsin, eastern Iowa, and northern Illinois.

The primary threat includes damaging winds, with a secondary risk of isolated tornadoes. Residents in La Crosse, Madison, and Dubuque should review safety plans and stay weather-aware, as this could be the first significant severe weather event of the season.

Officials recommend having multiple ways to receive weather alerts and seeking shelter indoors if storms approach. Those outdoors should remain aware of rapidly changing conditions.
