La Crosse, Wisconsin – A quick burst of cold air could bring patchy frost to La Crosse County before dawn Friday, but by Sunday, summerlike warmth will dominate the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, areas around La Crosse may experience frost early Friday with lows dipping to 36°F. Gardeners are urged to protect sensitive plants Thursday night. After the chill, temperatures will rise rapidly, hitting 74°F Friday and climbing to 79°F Saturday under clear skies.

By Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 11, high temperatures are expected to reach 82°F, with dry air and south winds increasing fire danger across parts of western Wisconsin. Outdoor burns are discouraged. Winds will remain light Friday and Saturday, but could reach 9 mph with 18 mph gusts on Sunday afternoon. Travelers on U.S. Highway 14 and I-90 near La Crosse should watch for shifting crosswinds late Sunday into Monday.
