La Crosse, WI – Residents across Wisconsin should prepare for a frigid Thanksgiving holiday as temperatures plunge below freezing and wind chills dip to dangerous levels. The National Weather Service in La Crosse warns of subzero wind chills beginning Thursday night, lasting through Sunday night, making outdoor activities risky.
According to the National Weather Service, scattered flurries are possible tonight before 8 p.m., with low temperatures around 23°F. Thanksgiving Day will remain mostly cloudy with highs near 29°F, but the real chill begins Thursday night as lows drop to 13°F. Gusty northwest winds up to 20 mph will make it feel even colder.
Those traveling for Thanksgiving should exercise caution. Roads may be slick in areas seeing flurries, and prolonged exposure to the cold can lead to frostbite. Residents should bundle up, check road conditions, and carry emergency supplies in their vehicles.
The bitter cold persists through the weekend, with daytime highs hovering between 10°F and 25°F. Overnight lows on Friday and Saturday will drop as low as 8°F. Wind gusts of up to 23 mph will continue to bring wind chills below zero, especially during morning and evening hours.
The cold trend breaks slightly on Sunday, with a high near 23°F and mostly sunny skies. Despite the sunshine, cold northwest winds will maintain a brisk feel.
