La Crosse, WI – Travelers and residents across Wisconsin should prepare for hazardous road conditions as freezing rain and patchy fog are expected to develop tonight into Thursday morning. The National Weather Service warns of icy patches, especially on bridges and overpasses, making post-holiday commutes potentially treacherous.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, freezing drizzle is likely after 11 p.m. Wednesday, with temperatures hovering near 29 degrees. The risk of icy roads extends through Thursday morning as a slight chance of freezing rain and patchy fog persists. Calm winds may limit visibility in some areas, particularly during the early hours. Drivers should reduce speed and allow extra time for travel.

The weather is forecast to improve by Thursday afternoon, with highs reaching near 40 degrees. However, rain chances will increase again Thursday night and into Friday, potentially accompanied by patchy fog. Rain is likely to intensify Friday evening, with temperatures warming to a high of 42 degrees.

Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday brings milder conditions with a high near 45 and a lower chance of rain. Cooler air may return by Sunday, with partly sunny skies and highs near 43.

Residents are urged to monitor local weather updates and avoid non-essential travel during freezing conditions. Stay alert for rapidly changing weather patterns, especially during overnight hours.
