La Crosse, Wis. – Repeated rounds of heavy rain are putting parts of southwest Wisconsin on flood alert through Friday, with La Crosse, Grant, and Monroe counties facing the highest risk for localized flooding. Storms are expected to redevelop each day, raising concerns for flash flooding on saturated ground.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, showers and thunderstorms will intensify Wednesday and Thursday, producing rainfall totals between 1 and 3 inches per day in some areas. Communities that received overnight rain Monday into Tuesday—especially in low-lying or urban zones—will be more vulnerable to water accumulation.
Cities like La Crosse, Prairie du Chien, and Tomah could see travel disruptions due to ponding on roads, especially during morning and evening commutes. Riverfront areas and poorly drained streets are most at risk. The weather service advises residents to avoid driving through flooded roads and to keep phones and weather radios charged in case of emergency alerts.
Dry weather returns Friday, but scattered showers may linger into Saturday across parts of central and southern Wisconsin.
Flood watches or warnings may be issued later this week if rainfall trends continue.
