Green Bay, Wisconsin – Dry winds and rising temperatures could turn a spring weekend into a wildfire hazard across northeast Wisconsin, including Green Bay and surrounding counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, near-critical fire weather conditions are expected Sunday through Tuesday as low humidity and mild winds combine with well-above-average temperatures. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, especially in counties along the Highway 41 corridor, including Brown, Oconto, and Marinette.
Sunday will be sunny with a high near 71°F in Green Bay. Winds could gust up to 18 mph by midday. Fire risk remains high into Monday as temperatures rise to 77°F under sunny skies. Patchy clouds return Monday night with continued dry conditions.
While the fire danger may ease slightly midweek, another system arrives Wednesday night through Thursday with a 50% chance of thunderstorms. Rain could help reduce dry conditions but also brings lightning risk for new ignitions.
Communities from Appleton to Wausau should remain alert. Spotters are urged to report any smoke or fire to law enforcement immediately. No burn bans are yet in place, but local fire departments may implement restrictions if the dry stretch continues.
Conditions remain volatile through Tuesday. Avoid open flames, discard cigarettes properly, and delay outdoor burning. Weather alerts may be issued if wind speeds increase or humidity drops further.
