La Crosse, Wis. – Nearly one million Wisconsinites remain under a tornado watch until 2 a.m. Tuesday, with severe storms capable of unleashing large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes across the central and western parts of the state. The storm threat lingers into the overnight hours, putting residents in areas like La Crosse, Stevens Point, and Wausau on alert.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, while storms have been less intense than initially anticipated, the atmosphere is still volatile enough to support dangerous weather. Scattered hail up to two inches in diameter and wind gusts as high as 75 mph remain likely, particularly in counties spanning from Prairie du Chien to Iron Mountain.

Communities in the watch zone—including Black River Falls, Merrill, and Green Bay—should prepare for sudden changes in weather conditions. Residents are urged to stay indoors, charge cell phones, and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts. High winds may lead to downed trees or power lines, while large hail could damage vehicles and rooftops.

This is Tornado Watch #185, covering a population of over 905,000, with 464 schools and 33 hospitals in the impacted area.

Stay weather aware overnight. Additional warnings may be issued as conditions evolve.
