Wisconsin Summer Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Rip Current Risk Sunday Through Monday Near Sturgeon Bay

Green Bay, Wis. – Thunderstorms packing gusty winds and localized flooding are expected to roll into northeast Wisconsin by late Sunday afternoon, closing out the weekend with travel and safety concerns across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, storms will develop Sunday after 5 p.m., with the strongest activity likely from 7 p.m. through midnight. Heat indices will climb into the mid-90s before storms arrive, increasing the risk of heat stress earlier in the day. Hazardous beach conditions are also in effect Sunday for Door, Kewaunee, and Manitowoc counties, where dangerous currents may make swimming life-threatening.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue into Sunday night, with potential for wind gusts exceeding 40 mph, isolated urban flooding, and pockets of heavy rain. Travelers should avoid low-lying areas and monitor local alerts, especially near Hwy 57 and Hwy 42 along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Though the severe threat decreases, more thunderstorms are possible Monday night through Wednesday, with additional rounds of rain and isolated lightning. Residents should stay weather-aware and secure loose outdoor items.
