La Crosse, WI – Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across La Crosse this afternoon and continue into the evening. With large hail, damaging winds, and the possibility of a tornado, residents should prepare to seek shelter, particularly during the peak storm hours between 4 and 10 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, storms will first form over southern Minnesota and northern Iowa before moving eastward into western Wisconsin. The primary threats include hail up to 1.5 inches and wind gusts as high as 60 mph. As the storms progress, they may weaken slightly but will still pose risks across eastern Wisconsin later in the evening. Keep an eye on the weather if you have outdoor plans.
The storm system will clear out by Friday, bringing drier conditions, with temperatures between 79 and 85°F. However, additional rain and storms are forecasted for the weekend, with cooler, more seasonable weather expected by Sunday. Stay tuned for updates and have a plan to shelter indoors if the storms intensify.
