Green Bay, Wis. – Thick smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to cloud the skies over Wisconsin, with air quality reaching unhealthy levels statewide through Wednesday. But as the haze begins to shift east overnight, clearer—though warmer—weather will settle in by Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, dense wildfire smoke combined with a cold front caused PM2.5 levels to spike into the “Unhealthy” range across central and northeastern Wisconsin. The state-issued Air Quality Advisory remains in effect until noon Wednesday, urging residents—especially those with heart or respiratory conditions—to stay indoors or limit outdoor activity.

By Thursday, skies are expected to clear, and sunshine will dominate. Temperatures will climb to a high of 76°F in Green Bay, with calm winds shifting eastward by evening. No rain is expected, but light smoke haze could linger into Thursday morning before fully dissipating.

Visibility will improve across Highways 41 and 43, but residents should still avoid intense physical activity outdoors until air quality fully rebounds. The improvement comes as a relief following Tuesday night’s widespread haze, which moved east from Platteville to Sheboygan.

Friday through the weekend, expect partly to mostly cloudy skies, with highs in the low 70s and no major rain chances until Sunday afternoon.

⚠️ Next Update: A reassessment of air quality will be issued Wednesday afternoon. Additional alerts are possible if smoke returns.
